Whether you have baseball coaching in mind or you are simply looking for baseball drills that will really suit your team, you are going to find that pinch hitting is something that you need to think about. When you see an opportunity to really lay it on the line and to call in the pinch hitter, how do you make sure that they are ready? Seeing as any player outside of the starting lineup could be called up for this important duty, it is of the utmost importance that you make sure that they are ready. When you are looking for some great drills to make sure that everyone is prepared, take some time and really consider some of your options with regards to this important position.

If you are looking to make sure that everyone who might be eligible for the job is proficient with it, you will find that you need to consider that they are all going to need to the practice. The first thing that you may wish to work on is checking their stances and their form. Even in the big leagues, things will get sloppy and if you take your position as a coach seriously, you are going to need to think about what you can do to change it. Make sure that they keep their shoulder and their chin tucked in and that they keep both eyes on the pitcher. Insist that they stay on the balls of their feet and that they “hit to their strength, that is, that they know where their strong points are.

One great drill for people to run is to pick up a whiffle ball and a batting tee. This drill is great because it forces them to figure out what they are doing and because it gives them immediately viewable results. You’ll discover that when you hit a whiffle ball right, you will hear the air that goes through it, but if you don’t, it will spin. This is a great way to figure out where your batters need to correct and what they need to work on. Take some time and make sure that they are getting this important lesson down.

If you are in a place where you are considering baseball coaching, remember that your pinch hitters are an important aspect of your game. There are plenty of things that you can do when you are looking to move forward and to make sure that you are getting the results that you need, but at the end of the day, you will find that a good grounding in the basics is the only place to start.
